Art Sparks has been taught to adults online, hosted by Programs in Earth Literacies. The “Art Sparklers”—who logged in from the US, Canada, and Australia—created an extraordinary experience of trust, creativity, and delight. Every week, minds and spirits were invigorated by igniting their vital creativity together!
As the unexpected piece de resistance was the thrilling discovery of each person’s artistic voice, photos revealing a few participants’ creative voices are shared below.
To understand and see one’s artistic voice, Imogene looks at patterns. In sharing her subjective responses to the patterns she sees, she is not evaluating or judging anyone’s work. Below are some reflections on what she sees as the themes being explored by individual creative voices. Imogene reminds participants to remember that their artistic voices can change and evolve. What’s important is knowing that they each have a creative voice!

By juxtaposing hot and cold colors to explore an organic sense of flow and motion in multiple directions, Ann seems to ignite the colors to act on their own!
Anne conveys a poetic concern with connections and looking at the big picture by combining conceptual words and symbolic shapes that express flow and relationality.
By creating two halves or a mirroring or twinning relationship in her compositions, Betsy shows an interest in balance, or a fusion or merging of division.
As a mirroring relationship or interaction is expressed within each piece as well as between the two pieces, Carol’s artistic voice is deeply inter-relational.
By exploring nature’s—similar and opposite—shapes, Carole expresses an organic, rhythmic pattern underlying the whole of life. As she activates her elements, shapes, and layers of compositions so that they seem to be communicating with each other, Selene’s landscapes exude a sense of power and harmony. An alluring dancing energy emerges in Janet’s watercolor paintings of pulsating figures, spirals, and brushstrokes!
