PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN

SMA students with collaborative art piece that they created.

Art Sparks Cosmic Creativity and Well-Being Program helps young people tap into their wells of imagination, experience their connection with the Cosmos, and energize their empowerment.

The holistic curriculum strengthens emotional quotient (EQ) skills, including classroom engagement, verbal and visual communication, presentation skills, creative self-expression, and personal agency. Intentional acts of self-expression are facilitated, shared, affirmed, and treated with respect in a safe, supportive environment.

At San Miguel Academy of Newburgh, NY, a middle school for at-risk youth, students are invariably surprised to discover their own artistic voices.

One child said he learned he could express his feelings in art.

Another said, “We are all special, and so we should feel good about ourselves.”

Another transformed dramatically from an anxious loner to a warm, relaxed student with greatly improved learning and social skills. His teacher now calls him “the poster child for Art Sparks’ therapeutic results.”

ARTISTIC VOICES EMERGE

You EACH have an artistic voice! Isn’t that exciting?!” – Imogene Drummond

In Art Sparks‘ last session, artist educator Imogene Drummond shares how students’ artistic voices emerge—an unexpected and empowering experience! Throughout the semester, each student’s ideas, dreams, and feelings materialize in their art as an expression of their creative voice. When they see their art pieces pulled together as a collection with a theme, they feel ownership of their worth and abilities.

To show the emergence of a pattern, style, design, color palette, or theme expressing their artistic voice, Imogene chooses 3-4 of each of the student’s pieces. To understand and see a student’s artistic voice, Imogene looks for patterns or connections among their paintings.

In doing so, Imogene illuminates the beauty, thoughtfulness, and diversity of each student’s creativity. She shares:

“These are expressions of your artistic voice today. Your artistic voices can and will change and evolve as you grow. What’s important is knowing that you have a creative voice! Always remember that you have an artistic voice: You are creative. You are worthy of love and respect.”

So that you can understand this process better, shared below are some 2025 San Miguel Academy students’ diverse artistic voices, and the ideas and themes they explored.
